Our five-day Blacksmithing Skills Training Course is designed for those who want to go beyond the basics, develop their confidence at the anvil, and experience the satisfaction of creating something substantial with their own hands.
Throughout the week, you’ll work on the creation of a bespoke hanging basket bracket, specially designed to incorporate a wide range of traditional blacksmithing techniques. From scrolling, healed tenoning, punching holes, upsetting and hot riveting just to mention a few, you’ll develop and refine a broad set of skills as your project takes shape.
Whether you're an enthusiastic hobbyist looking to take your blacksmithing further, someone considering a future career in the trade, or someone with previous forge experience wanting to broaden their existing skill set, this course offers an opportunity to spend an entire week immersed in traditional blacksmithing.
With plenty of time at the forge and guidance throughout, you’ll be encouraged to develop your technique, build confidence and understand the craft behind the finished piece.

These exclusive week-long courses currently run only once a year.
This is an intensive, hands-on course with eight places available, allowing for a more personal learning experience and plenty of opportunity for individual tuition.
All appropriate PPE, drinks and snacks are provided.
Simply bring your own packed lunch each day.
COURSE PRICE- £850 per person
You can choose to either pay in full or spread the cost with a monthly payment plan.

THE COURSE DESCRIPTION
Day one
General forging and forming focusing on: Ribbon scroll, Bevel scroll & Snub-end scroll.
Processes learnt- Introduction to Fire control, General anvil forging, drawing down & upsetting, setting down, general forming, Scrolling and fixings typical forging mistakes.
Day Two
Top horizonal bar- Healed tenon, Round tapered hook
Processes learnt- Controlled Upsetting, introduction to smith and striking for forging, the use of anvil tooling and top tooling, controlled tapering, bending, advanced fire control.
Day Three
Vertical back plate- Split Fishtail scroll, Decorative tapered scroll with texturing
Processes learnt- controlled forging, cutting and forming (split Fishtail taper), laying out and general forge fixing preparations.
Day Four
Punching holes including smith and striking
Processes learnt- Punching holes using slot & round punches, Drifting and sizing holes. Punching & correcting holes in flat and curve faces.
Day Five
Riveting the bracket together with any final adjustments and finishing it with beeswax
Processes learnt- Hot Riveting and tenoning, Finishing and hot waxing.

PRICING
This advance course is £850pp. You can either pay in full or spread the cost over a few months.
CANCELLATION POLICY
Cancellations
Cancellations made within 14 days of the scheduled experience date are non-refundable.
Cancellations made more than 14 days before the experience date will receive a 50% refund of the total booking cost.
Refunds will be issued to the original payment method within a reasonable timeframe.

Rescheduling
You may reschedule your experience day up to 14 days before your scheduled arrival date at no additional charge.
If you wish to reschedule within 14 days of your experience date, a 50% charge of the original booking fee will apply, payable on the day of your experience.
